New York, NY — Envoy Magazine today announced that Stéphanie Fillion has been named Editor-in-Chief, bringing nearly a decade of reporting from United Nations Headquarters and a track record of award-winning global-affairs journalism across major international outlets.
Fillion is a Canadian reporter specializing in foreign affairs and human rights and a United Nations resident correspondent. Her work has appeared in outlets including Forbes, Foreign Policy, CNN, Radio-Canada, La Stampa, and Japan’s Asahi Shimbun.
“Envoy was created to give readers deeper, more human access to the people and ideas shaping multilateralism,” said Razi Canikligil, Envoy’s President & Founder. “Stéphanie is exactly the kind of editor Envoy needs for this moment—an on-the-ground UN correspondent with the editorial ambition to expand our reporting, elevate diverse voices, and sharpen our lens on the forces reshaping diplomacy.”
In her new role, Fillion will lead Envoy’s editorial direction across its quarterly issues and digital platforms, with a focus on producing ambitious reporting and analysis from UN Headquarters and beyond—connecting institutional developments at the UN with the broader geopolitical shifts driving them.
“I’ve been covering the UN for nearly a decade—from the COVID-19 pandemic to Ukraine, Gaza, and the organization’s current funding crisis,” Fillion said. “This is precisely the moment to stay, report, and explain what’s at stake. At Envoy, we’ll pair insider access with big-picture storytelling, expand our social platforms, and lift diverse voices across the diplomatic and international-affairs community.”
Recognition and Awards
Fillion’s UN reporting has been recognized by the United Nations Correspondents Association, including the Prince Albert II of Monaco & UNCA Global Prize Silver Medal in 2021 and the Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize Bronze Medal in 2022. She is also a Gracie Awards honoree for individual achievement in a foreign language, recognized for her coverage of the 2021 United Nations Secretary-General selection process and her reporting on women candidates in the race. She was also named Journalist of the Month by IJNet in 2022.
Experience and Background
Fillion has worked across print and broadcast journalism, and her reporting frequently focuses on the intersection of diplomacy, conflict, and human rights. She holds a master’s degree in Journalism, Politics, and Global Affairs from Columbia University and a B.A. in Political Science from McGill University.
In addition to her reporting, Fillion has appeared at prominent public events on multilateralism and global affairs. She moderated the high-level Women in Conflicts event held during UN General Assembly week, hosted by European Council President Charles Michel and featuring heads of government and Nobel Peace Prize laureates including Dr. Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad. She was also the keynote speaker at UNA-NYC’s Worldview Spring 2023 Graduation Dinner and has moderated selected UNA-NYC Ambassador Series conversations.
