A group of 10 students from Boston University visited Envoy Magazine this week, gaining firsthand insight into the world of United Nations journalism and the evolving media landscape.

The students met with Envoy’s editorial board at the United Nations Correspondents Association room, where they participated in an in-depth discussion about reporting on global diplomacy and international affairs. The session focused on both the opportunities and the challenges facing journalists covering the United Nations.

Envoy Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Stephanie Fillion, welcomed the students and introduced them to a panel of seasoned professionals. Among the speakers were veteran UN journalist Pamela Falk, Edith Lederer of the Associated Press, Envoy founder Razi Canikligil, and photojournalist Bianca Otero.

During the exchange, students asked candid questions about the difficulties of UN reporting, including access to sources, navigating diplomatic sensitivities, and maintaining journalistic independence in a complex multilateral environment. Speakers shared personal experiences from their careers, offering practical advice on breaking into international journalism and adapting to a rapidly changing media ecosystem.

The visit highlighted Envoy Magazine’s role as a bridge between emerging journalists and experienced correspondents, providing a platform for dialogue on the future of global reporting.

For the students, the meeting offered a rare opportunity to engage directly with leading voices in UN journalism—an experience that underscored both the demands and the rewards of covering one of the world’s most influential institutions.
